The Rise Of Nokia Smartphones

2010 has been an interesting year for Nokia. The Finnish company is still the largest producer of mobile phones in the world but especially in the smartphone segment their marketshare is declining rapidly with the uprising of the of the iPhone, BlackBerry and the Android devices. Nokia still remains loyal to their Symbian operating system and in the past year we have seen some interesting releases of new devices.

New C Series

At the CeBIT convention in Germany Nokia first announced their new C-series to the general public with the introduction of the new Nokia C5. The Nokia C5 was a smartphone packed into a feature phone body, boasting S60 3rd edition and a host of messaging and social networking features built in. The phone was available for a reasonably cheap price bringing the smartphone experience to the masses.

Later this year Nokia Also announced the Nokia C6 and the more high-end Nokia C7. Especially the Nokia C7 was an interesting phone as it was one of the first Nokia phones to run on Symbian^3 OS and use the new ClearBlack display technology.

Introduction of the Nokia N8

The most interesting thing for the Nokia fans around the globe was of course the introduction of the Nokia N8. Building on the success of the N-series this phone set the new standard for Nokia. Running on the new Symbian^3 platform this phone featured an impressive 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Besides shooting fantastic photo’s this camera also had the ability to record high definition videos.

Nokia E7 the ultimate business Phone

With the E7 Nokia introduced what they call the ultimate business smartphone. The Nokia E7 comes with a 4 inch touchscreen display featuring Nokia ClearBlack technology. Nokia also included a full qwerty keypad on the E7 to aim this model at the business market. Easy synchronization with your work inbox, calendar, contacts and the safe intranet access make this phone a real mobile office. Next to that the Nokia E7 also has all the other smartphone features such as, a multimedia player, 8 megapixel camera and GPS navigation. The phone was due to hit the in December but unfortunately Nokia recently announced that the E7 is delayed to early 2011.

Coming up?

Now what will Nokia bring in 2011? All we know is that the E7 will hit the stores in the first months. Next to that we can expect that the first Nokia devices running on the new MeeGo operating system will be introduced somewhere in the upcoming year. Rumour also had it that Nokia is planning to start producing smartphones with dualcore processors. Also Google is still hoping that Nokia will start using their Android platform on Nokia smartphones. So even though Nokia might have had some minor hiccups in 2010 the future still looks bright for the Finnish company.
